It’s springtime in Baltimore, and that means a schedule packed with festivals and events. If you’re looking for some fun to usher in the balmy weather, check out these exciting April events lighting up Charm City.

Light City Baltimore

When: March 28th through April 3rd, various events (see website for schedules)

Where: Various businesses and venues in Baltimore’s Inner Harbor

Admission: Free to stroll the BGE Light Walk and visit exhibits; check ticket prices for individual events

Details: This is the first large-scale international lights festival of its kind in the United States and it promises to be a dramatic event. Come see the amazing light shows as downtown Baltimore bathes in an array of stunning light displays. Celebrate the city’s creativity and ingenuity at the various exhibits and performances around town.

Beer, Bourbon and BBQ Fest

When: Friday, April 1st, from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. and Saturday, April 2nd, from noon (VIP access) to 6 p.m.

Where: Maryland State Fairground at the Cow Palace, 3539 Clipper Mill Road in Baltimore

Details: This is the original BB&B festival in the country and this year’s schedule of events is one of the best ever. Unlimited samples of over 60 craft beers and 40 bourbons, plus literal tons of barbecued meat (chicken, sausage, pork, beef) with all the usual accompaniments from top local vendors—not to mention the whole hog ‘cue. Don’t miss the great bands and games center, plus educational exhibits on all aspects of beer and bourbon.

Note: Children under 12 get free admission, but event organizers stress that this is not really a kid-friendly event.

Fell’s Point Privateer Festival

When: Saturday, April 16th, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Sunday, April 17th, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Where: Main Street (and throughout the neighborhood) in Fell’s Point

Admission: Free, although some activities require tickets; visit the event website for details

Details: The Privateer Festival is a pirate-themed event with family friendly activities taking place throughout the Fell’s Point community. There are marine battle re-enactments, tall ship displays, hands-on activities for the kids, ship tours, educational exhibits and displays, plus live music and more than enough food vendor stalls to satisfy your every craving. For the over-21 crowd, there is a “Pyrate Invasion” pub crawl from 3 p.m. to 1 a.m. (tickets are $10).

Baltimore Farmer’s Market and Bazaar

When: Sunday, April 17th, from 7 a.m. until noon

Where: Jones Falls Expressway at Holliday and Saratoga Streets

Admission: Free

Details: This Sunday kicks off the opening of one of Baltimore’s favorite traditions. This producers-only farmer’s market features organic seasonal fruits and vegetables, poultry, meats (including exotics such as rabbit, goat, and bison), artisanal baked goods, vegan items, and handmade crafts and collectibles. Enjoy fresh ethnic cuisine at the market’s various vendor stalls.
